BAYTOWN CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Resolution for Approval of the 2030 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan
Raquel Martinez, City Clerk's Office
Parks and Recreation
Consider a resolution accepting the 2030 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan.
This proposed resolution accepts the 2030 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Master Plan.
On November 18, 2019, Council approved a contract with Halff Associates, Inc., to develop and update the Playbook 2020 Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Greenways Master Plan.
The 2030 Master Plan is the culmination of an extensive planning process involving elected officials, staff, key stakeholders, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council and the citizens of Baytown. The plan summarizes key park issues and includes “Improvement Priorities” for the Baytown Park and Recreation Department for the next ten years.
The Master Plan includes the recommendations from other master plans including the Russell Park Master Plan, the Recreation Center Feasibility Study, and the Aquatics Facilities Master Plan.
The Plan meets the park, recreation, and open space master plan guidelines of the Texas Recreation and Parks Account Program administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and will be submitted for their approval in September.
The Baytown Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved the Master Plan at its meeting held on June 30, 2021. The plan has also been presented to the Baytown Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council at a joint meeting in May.
