The City is completely rebuilding the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located along SH 146 between Decker Drive (Spur 330) and Garth Road. With the facility’s reconstruction and in following best practices for planning and zoning, the applicant is seeking to rezone a portion of the property from OR to GC. This aligns with the Future Land Use Plan (FLUP) allowing for commercial zoning along this corridor.
The remainder of the property surrounding the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center was not included in the rezoning since it is located either in the Goose Creek Floodway, the floodplain, or it is a part of the City of Baytown's trail system connecting to Emmett Hutto.
